Measurement

Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and session replay. It records mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and which pages you visit, with images and anything you type masked before it leaves your browser. It sets two cookies on wastify.co.uk and Microsoft sets its own on clarity.ms. Microsoft handles that data under its own privacy statement, which may involve processing outside the UK. Nothing here is shared with an advertising network.

Introduction#

This Cookie Policy explains how Wastify AI Ltd (“Wastify”, “we”, “our”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our websites, applications, and services. It also explains your choices regarding these technologies.

We are committed to transparency in how we collect and use data to ensure compliance with applicable laws, including the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR.

The lawful basis differs by group. Cookies and similar technologies in the strictly necessary group fall inside the exception in paragraph 4 of Schedule A1 to PECR, for storage and access that is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, including keeping our forms secure and preventing fraud and automated abuse connected with them. Where they involve personal data we rely on our legitimate interests. Everything in the measurement group runs on your consent, which is asked for before anything is loaded and can be withdrawn from the footer of any page.

What Are Cookies?#

Cookies are small text files that are downloaded to your computer, tablet, or mobile device when you visit a website. They enable websites to recognise your device, remember preferences, and improve the overall user experience.

Cookies may be:

  • Session Cookies: Deleted automatically when you close your browser.
  • Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device until they expire or are deleted.
  • First-Party Cookies: Set directly by the website you visit.
  • Third-Party Cookies: Set by external services integrated into our website.

Types of Cookies We Use#

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies Required for the website to function properly and securely, including the check that protects the enquiry form on our contact page and our document request forms from automated abuse.
  • Enable navigation, account logins, and secure areas.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, provided by Cloudflare, Inc., on the enquiry form on our contact page and our document request forms. It checks that a form is being filled in by a person and not an automated script. It is loaded only when you open a page that carries one of those forms, and it starts its check as soon as the page opens, before you press submit. It collects your IP address and signals about your browser and device, and runs short tests in your browser, but it does not read what you type into the form. Cloudflare says it uses what Turnstile collects to tell people from automated scripts and to improve that check, and not to identify, profile or target anyone. Turnstile runs from Cloudflare’s own domain, challenges.cloudflare.com, and stores nothing on wastify.co.uk. Cloudflare’s documentation says Turnstile relies on cookies and local storage to keep the state of its check, and anything it keeps is held under challenges.cloudflare.com. It cannot be switched off, because those forms cannot be protected without it. Our Privacy Policy explains what Cloudflare does with the data.

  • Performance and Analytics Cookies Collect data on how visitors interact with our website, including mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and the pages visited. Images and anything you type are masked in your browser before the recording is sent.
  • Used to improve functionality and measure performance.
  • We use Microsoft Clarity on this website, and no other analytics product. It is not loaded at all unless you accept measurement cookies, and you can withdraw your consent at any time from the footer of any page.
  • Functionality Cookies We store two preferences on the public website: your answer to the cookie question, which is covered above as strictly necessary, and, if you close the research sign-up prompt on our resources pages, a note in your browser’s local storage that you closed it, so that it does not appear again. That note stays on your device and is not sent to us or anyone else.
  • We set no other functionality cookies on the public website.
  • Targeting and Advertising Cookies We do not use these. No advertising or marketing cookies are set on this website.
  • No advertising network is given access to this website.
  • Nothing you do here is shared with an advertising network.

How We Use Cookies#

We use cookies to:

Third-Party Cookies#

Two third parties can store or access information on your device through this website: Microsoft Clarity, only after you have accepted measurement cookies, and Cloudflare, on pages with the enquiry form on our contact page or a document request form, as a security check that runs without asking:

  • Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used, and only after you have accepted measurement cookies. It sets two cookies on wastify.co.uk: _clck, which lasts up to a year and recognises a returning browser, and _clsk, which lasts until the end of the day and groups a single visit. Microsoft sets its own cookies on clarity.ms, handles the data under its privacy statement at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement, and may process it outside the UK.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that the enquiry form on our contact page and our document request forms are being filled in by a person. It sets no cookies on wastify.co.uk and stores nothing there. Anything it stores is held under Cloudflare’s own domain, challenges.cloudflare.com. Cloudflare’s cookie policy names the cookies its challenges can use, such as cf_chl_rc_i and cf_chl_rc_ni, which it uses to find faults in how its check runs in browsers, and classes them as strictly necessary. Cloudflare does not publish how long they last. Cloudflare handles the data under its Turnstile Privacy Addendum at cloudflare.com/turnstile-privacy-policy, and may process it outside the UK.
  • We run no advertising cookies of any kind on this website.
  • We run no marketing or customer relationship cookies on this website.

We control whether Microsoft Clarity runs at all. It is not loaded unless you accept measurement cookies, and switching them off in the footer stops it and clears what it set here. We do not control the cookies Microsoft sets on its own clarity.ms domain, and those are governed by Microsoft’s privacy statement.

Cloudflare Turnstile is different. It runs whenever a page with the enquiry form on our contact page or a document request form is open, and there is no switch for it, because those forms cannot be protected from automated abuse without it. If your browser or an extension blocks challenges.cloudflare.com, those forms cannot be sent, and you can email hello@wastify-ai.co.uk instead. Our research paper sign-up form does not use Turnstile. We decide where Turnstile runs. Cloudflare decides what the check keeps on challenges.cloudflare.com, acting for us when it protects our forms and on its own account when it improves the check, as its Turnstile Privacy Addendum and cookie policy explain.

Managing Cookies#

You have the right to control cookies. You can:

  • Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies.
  • Use our cookie consent manager (banner) to opt in or out of specific categories.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.

Please note: disabling certain cookies may impact functionality and restrict access to parts of our website.

Data Retention#

Cookies remain active on your device for varying durations:

  • Session cookies are deleted once you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies remain for up to 12 months unless cleared. Your cookie choice is kept for six months. If you accept measurement, _clck lasts up to a year and recognises a returning browser, and _clsk lasts until the end of the day and groups a single visit.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile sets nothing on wastify.co.uk. The pass it issues is valid for five minutes and can be used once. Anything Cloudflare keeps under challenges.cloudflare.com is set and managed by Cloudflare, which does not publish how long it lasts, and you can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s cookies and site data.

We keep your answer for six months and then ask again. You can change it sooner at any time, from the footer of any page.

Updates to This Policy#

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, technology, or our practices. Any updates will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
